Hi guys,
Currently rebuilding my 320/6 engine and about to refurb the sump
I have the original 320/6 sump that came off it but s a bit bashed up so wanted to use a 323i sump that I have as it’s good condition
They look and fit identical apart from a small square indentation on the 323i sump pan
I can only assume this is for some kind of clearance on the 323i, can anyone tell me if this is ok to use on the 320/6 ??

Re: 320/6 - 323i sump comparison
Easiest usually is to check on realoem or bmwfans but these say there was only one type of oil pan for 320/6 AND 323i for all years. Perhaps they used different suppliers but I'd say this should be fine.

Hmmm maybe it’s an aftermarket part?
I have the same thing with the thermostat cover,
I have one from the 320/6 engine and one from a 323i both look identical but have different part numbers

Had a look but as you said it shows the same part no for both models including automatic and earlier versions
Same with the cover.
Thats good enough for me!
Thanks for the help

No problems swapping. Even the 2.7 eta pan goes. The newer m20's wit alu pan (e30) have the big lump on the left side for the oilsensor, can be fitted. No problems either. Same depth and all.
