323i fan speeds

Post by Vic »

Hey guys

Engine starts and runs nice, but the temperature needle moves well over 90degrees. So far I’ve replaced the thermostat, clutch fan, but not the temperature sensor which is situated on the housing; would this cause the issue? Want to get it in for an mot this weekend but hesitant in case it over heats, only took me 6years to fully rebuild lol..

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks

Vic,

But you have no idea if it is actually getting too hot? Fan clutches are very sensitive and need to be stored upright, if for example you buy one from BMW you get one in a bag that has been stored on a heap, especially the early type clutches are all dead, new from BMW! So that could be a cause as well as the water pump (corrosion may decrease capacity), but yes I think I'd replace the temp sender first as this is the easiest and cheapest fix.

Background info in the Cooling chapter of the FAQ section.
