Avalability of those is on and off indeed, also through other suppliers.

Sofica (and all other) heater motor repairs - London UK

Heater Motor Repair (Sofica etc)

Hi all, I know this is a common problem, so I thought I'd share my findings...

The heater motor in my 320/6 (Sofica) had started to screech like mad in the winter months, and I know from others that this is usually the beginning of the end.

The Sofica motor itself is hard to find (used or otherwise) unless you have £600+ to give wallothnesch... so I did some research and found a local (London, UK) company who specialise in refurbishing motors....

I dropped the unit in, and the next day they had it ready for me - total cost £45, although he did mention that if a 'full rebuild' had been required, it would have cost around £120 - still reasonable in my opinion.

I'm sure that these little workshops still exist all over the world, but if you want it done in London here are the details (maybe they would do mail order repairs, worth asking):

>> Robson and Francis, based in Streatham Vale - http://www.robsonandfrancisrewinds.co.uk, owner is called Mike <<

And just by coincidence, one of the engineers there (Ossie I think he's called) used to have a 323i, and the heater motor died on him too several years ago!

I've been running my revitalised Sofica motor for 7 weeks now without a hitch, and we've had freezing weather in that time too - so I'm confident this job will hold.

Keep warm folks!

David

As an addition here: My friend Yiannis's "RESTORCARATION" near Corinth canal, Greece.
He is a great connoisseur of 02's especially, but he does fantastic work on E21s (as well as some other cars too)
Kudos for my car's engine (the good one) and transformation are to be given to him to a great extent.
Lots of broken cars end to Yiannis, so good source of cars, but also expertise to prepare everything up to racing level

www.restorcaration.com (I think under construction)

Thanks for the tip, hope he betters his website as one shabby picture among a heap of borrowed images doesn't really give a good impression.
