Re: BMW 323i M50 2.5
So I MOT'd it, had to space the engine up away from the steering linkage and swap a steering rack gaiter.
And then I put it in the workshop...
It looks drastic but it's the easiest way for me to swap the sump and clutch in one go. I've had my sump finally done (pick up still to be modified) and I have a paddle clutch to replace the slipping standard 323i item. The engine bay/trans tunnel also has some rust to treat. The plan is to have it all back in by at least the end of July, that sounds long but my current schedule is ridiculous.
This is why you need the sump modified on a 24v, the fins have been smashed off and the oil sensor thing is missing one of the nuts that holds it on and the other two have been ground down by the road...
I'm still debating selling it though. I'll see how I get on over the summer.

My sump is done
The idea was that the engineer would let me know when the bottom was chopped up so I could fit it on the engine and score along the oil pickup, but when I turned up he had already finished it. So I made a template to the size/shape of the sump and chopped up the pickup which is being welded today
Jason's steering linkage was fitted yesterday, very pleased with the outcome. Getting the hang of splitting the UJs was fun! I thought I could use a complete E34 UJ from the linkage bar to the rack but due to the rack not having a notch I had to merge it with the lower E21 rack part UJ as well
Then I cut off all the unused bracketry and satined blacked some of the engine bay, before and afters

Looks way better with the black.
Re: BMW 323i M50 2.5
Yeah if I ever have the engine out again and I have more time, I'll strip the whole bay and spray it properly.

Mine needs doing when the engine comes out come Autumn.
Do you plan on losing the servo/linkage?

Re: BMW 323i M50 2.5
I'd like to but I want to keep some sort of servo and not go down the brake bias route, for now it stops reasonably-ish and thats OK.

Not yet, the engine is still out and in pieces
I can confirm this car will be for sale in the new year, all fixed up and ready to roll. Surplus to requirements now.
