323i TC-1 Baur 5-speed

Post by Heinrich »

First of all, I would like to give Jeroen all the credits for making this dream come true. Inspired by the pictures of his car, I decided that I would try and find something similar. I was aware that it could take years before the right one came along, but to all luck Jeroen put me on the leads of this one, only a couple of months after I started my search. Location Switzerland...I recieved serveral pictures from the seller and decided that it was worth traveling the 1300 km. to go and see the car. Off with an aeroplane and only one hour after landing, I was on my way home with the car.

Here is a short summary from the cars history:

Registered first time 07.08.1981
First owner Fa. Hotel Treuhand AG St. Moritz
Second owner (born 30.12.36) bought the car 10.04.1989
Third owner (a Toyota dealer) bought the car in 2011 and only had it stored in his garage.
Fourth owner - me :P

All the books are with the car. There is a comlpete servicebook and all "Abgas-Wartungdokumente" to documentate the history and milage.

Futureplanes: Allmost none besides from enjoying and maintaining the car. I am looking for a Bavaria S og Cassette 2. Allso a new ashtray and a new handle for the handbrake (think a dog bid in it  ).

Jeroen told me to post LOTS of pictures - hope that there are not to many after all - enjoy:

Congrats on the car. I must say that you have found a jewel of a Baur.

Keep her in this shape and please come to Holland sometimes for the Sharknosemeeting so we all can see the car irl.

If I ever win a lottery ticket, I'll contact Jeroen. e_surprised

Thanks for all the positive comments. Really appreciated. And yes indeed I am very happy with it. I better stop polishing before I wax all the paint off or my wife leaves me course I am in the garage all the time :wtf

More pics...Well, I could post a pic from each side of the owners manual if you can't get enough

I will take it through the MOT in a couple of days and afterwards I will wait to get the Danish registration tax (can take a couple of months before they calculate it). Anyhow I don't think it will hit the road before next spring.

Took her through the MOT. All three inspectors went through the car and they agreed that they did not have to use their hammer to locate rust

Pictures are not the best (cell phone). Will update them later on.

Got licence plates today :boogie

Took a slow ride into the blue at once...Picture does not say much besides it turned to 85.000 km. today...

Well, maybe one more thing - a bird took a shit in my car, but I once heard from a vice guy that it only means luck

Congrats! Question: while driving, does the temp rise further? When driving it should be at the center mark.

Thanks a lot.

It does yes. Goes up to the line after the middle. When going 80-100 it is in the middle. When stopping or driving slow it goes up fast again. Suppose it's the fan clutch?

I still need to have the CO adjusted. It idles at 1000 rpm. and when speeding up and leave the throttle it falls so low it allmost dies. It has a hard time to come up again without help with the foot.

As soon as there is flow or cold air its ok. Most likely to be the fan clutch, but the water pump could play a role as well. For more info see the FAQ. But since you have the later clutch, a replacement is easy to find and not too expensive, I'd start there. When the engine gets warm you probably don't hear the fan blow clearly?

Sounds like the car wants a CO adjustment indeed. If you do an extensive exhaust gas analysis (CO, CO2, Hc) you will also be able to see if there are any vacuum problems.
