Windscreen HELP

Post by Rbraz80 »

Hi,

My 1982 e21 has a cracked windscreen and I bought a used windscreen for it.

Now the guys at the workshop say it does not fit...

Are series one E21 windscreens different from series two?

Thx!

R

I wonder how many windscreen leaks are down to a later screen in an early rubber....

I would like to add something to this conversation as well. As I recall from several years ago, those gaskets are supposed to be glued it (sealed) prior to installing the windscreen. Can anyone confirm that.

Nope, they do not have to be glued. But some folks do, as the windshield frame is rotten. But that is not how they supposed to go in. No glue, bonding material or what so ever.

My neighbor will try to glue a rotten frame. I'll mention to him it is a bad idea.

I can tell you from experience that if you get a pilkington/triplex screen (and you'll be waiting months for them to make one special order) it will be the early, larger screen, so get the small seal!

On an unrelated note, does anyone want a NOS late seal...?
