Herman the Alpina goes Drag Racing!!

Post by TopCat »

Dear All
This is what I said earlier........................

We shall see this coming w/e where I shall take Herman to the Manx Drag Racers' Association Drag meeting which we are sponsoring corporately see:
http://www.manxdragracing.com/Championship.htm

btw we are Equilibrium pensions Limited- and You can see plenty of pix of Butch the racing Camaro

What do we reckon on doing the 1/4 mile in? Please bear in mind that the track is rough and therefore favours the souped up Subarus with 4WD (even beat Butch!). Has anyone taken their E21s on the strip? What did they do?

We shall see.............
NB bear in mind that a) I don't know what I am doing and b) the car goes as it is- one of the reasons why we are not running Butch is that my trailer is being fixed TT is making roads chaotic and really I cannot convert Butch from being a monstrous rolling start race car to a drag car without much more expense and hassle- new drag tyres, loose shox etc! Thing is with Herman we turn up get everything out of the car reduce rear tyre pressures, increase front ones and away we go...........

We we won our Bracket!
14.30 was the break point
Image
Herman did a 14.32 at 101 mph to come first- even won the final shoot out against a Nissan 200sx Turbo
In the class were 2 Nissan Skylines and 2 Honda S2000s and lots of others it was the largest class.
After the racing had a VERY Memorable drive across the mountain road's one way system- Fantastic day
all the best fellow E21 lovers

Thought I would mention that Herman has 205 50 15 Federal 595 RSR tyres on rear- (slightly smaller on the front)

brand new and kindly put on the car just prior to my collecting it

I think these are good tyres- they certainly dug in well- and seem to be reasonably priced- if you recall I have organised an Alpina Replica 7x15 spare and will source one of these Federals (in the rear tyre size as the rears have the most punctures) in due course.

Seem to be mentioned in same breath as Toyo A888s and Yoko O48Rs- on various forums- so they are in good company!

Sadly the largest 15 inch size is the above- no good for any Camaros!
