A few more pics (entire unit) would be helpful but 242 basically is the short 4 speed.

Size says it all, and the difference between 4 and 5 speed is the length. Argree with Jeroen, pic of the whole thing, from the side is all we need to determin.

I will provide the photo soon.

However I'm intrigued why there is no one id number of the part that would allow identification without any doubts?

Thanks my fellow friends.

This one has the extension so this definitely is a M20/M60 6 cyl 5-speed. It looks a bit messy where the speedo drive needs to be mounted at the tail, that may require a check.

Thank you Jeroen. Any clues how to understand which version of the 5 speed exactly?

I'm thinking about building a device where you connect both ends to the shafts, it is spinning around for a while, you change the gears and at the end it shows you gear ratios on the small printout piece of paper 😂

In highest spot gearbox is flat surface and stamped some numbers + two letters.
Those letters:
T or BO -> m10 Getrag 245 CR
BJ or GJ -> m20 Getrag 245 CR
BN,GH or GL -> m10 Getrag 245 OD
GC,GG or GM -> m20 Getrag 245 OD
ME,MF -> m10 Getrag 240 OD
MG -> m20 Getrag 240 OD
CR = "sport" and OD = overdrive

This would be great, no more doubts. I'm going to check it out! Thanks
