yeah considered the m62 quite a bit, and the m52 aswelll but figured that even with an ally block, the straight 6 is a monstrous lump weighing a LOT more than the original 1.6 (which is a heavy little blighter anyway!). So yes; drawn to size, 16v valve head, weight and wider tuning potentials of the M42.

very well then.. :)
it would be interesting if you supercharge the engine before finishing the "engine" topic :)

keep us posted :)
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

yeah I'm actually having serious thoughts about slapping a turbo on the m42 as compared to FWD engine conversions i've done before, there is a lot more room & simplicity provided by inline engine & transmission mounting!

but first, need to get an engine hahaha

Or, weld the bottom of the arches up first :banana

If your going to Turbo it why not just rebuild your M10 with low compression pistons and charge that. Big power can be had from an M10 turbo.
The block ended up in a turbo F1 car with 850 to 1300bhp, so they are strong

That would be a good plan, but the bores on my M10 are completely knackered so needs either
a) re-bored, new O/S pistons, rings etc. But then it would be a waste not to CC match the head and get a high lift cam / something suitable for boost
b) get a e30 318 1.8 16v in there for probably 1/5 of the cost of a boosted M10. Then FI the m42 at a later date if lightened flywheel, remap & induction/exhaust don't make it likely enough.

That below is petrol & 2 stroke oil, poured through the spark plug holes a few weeks ago. Nothing will budge yet :wha not even rocking it HARD forward/back in gear can shift it :wtf

Had to post pics individually, as the site seems throw its toys out the pram for some reason when I try to do text & photos.

Anyway yes! E21 still on track, just sussing out how the back end has faired after 40 years. Looks pretty promising. Wouldn't even say the rust holes found so far are bad.

The m42 hunt is still on. Need a donor e30 318is ideally, as require driveshaft, box, loom etc. Preferably one on about 60k miles that was written off by a truck in the back quarter

Don't think that's gonna turn up though haha

Hi guys,

Got my thread moved, as I am due to post tons of stuff, and figured it better in this subforum & slightly more 'out the way'.

So then; chassis update.

As you can see, fairly rotten. The photos are only a small segment of the scale of rot, the sills are pretty bad too!

BUT!!

The car has not quite fallen victim to the iron-oxide plague. I shall be cracking my MIG welder & tin snips out over the coming weeks :banana :banana :banana

Still on the hunt for an M42B18 engine, loom, box, ECU etc etc. If anyone happens to have one lying around?
:thumbsup

I've needed a few weekends to get some bits together I.e correct welding wire to ensure minimal heat distortion, gas, a few sheets of different thickness mild steel etc etc. But so far it's going alright! This new wing should spur me on
