Just deductive research!! You"ll get there. But pops and bags mage me think it is something like to much fuel or vaccuumleaks.
Accumulator is avalable at BMW I think, but also al Turner Motorsport
here
The replacing one is smaller, but does the job fine.

Is there no trick with swapping to the older/smaller one? Are all of the lines the same?

Older one is bigger with some care the solid lines will bend a bit to fit. Recommend replacing the rubber lines to make it fit in the bracket you'll have to make a fix, since the diameter is also smaller.

Fuel issue turned out to be the cloth fuel lines in the rear. Replaced all of the lines except the two in the engine bay and the car runs as well as ever!

Well, I got busy again. Had one serious buyer come look while I was out of town and drive it around. They got scared off by an electrical gremlin that only appeared to them and has not appeared to me since. I've put some more miles on this thing and loved every second. Thinking I'll do what I can to keep it.
It's at EDA Motorworks to get a lookover and I asked them to pull a vacuum on the AC system to see if it holds. If so, dump some R134 in there with the updated fittings and let's see what happens. I have honestly not heard of a single E21 having an issue forgoing dryer replacement or seals and everyone has had success just drawing the system down and dumping R134 in. My expectations are still low, but it can't hurt to try.
After that, I've asked Max to take a look over the car and let me know what little things he can tackle. See if he can patch up the exhaust and get me a quote on fixing the sunroof for good and reupholstering the headliner.

AC work didn't end it getting done yet. I ordered a new dryer, a conversion kit, and some seals that I'll be installing before I take it back to Max.
Took the car down to Harrisonburg for the first Madison Motorsports deck meet. The students loved it and a few of them took the car for a joy ride and snagged some photos.
On the 2 hour drive back, I lost a license plate bulb cover, which I think I have a spare of somewhere in my box of mysteries. Didn't have time to replace it before taking the car on another cruise, but this time it was 8 hours of driving over 2 days to do a tour of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The car performed flawlessly except some belt squeal.
Priorities:
License plate bulbs and cover
Replace license plate fasteners with less rusty screws
Gauge cluster bulbs
AC equipment/convert to R134
Install the sunroof sliders I ordered off eBay
Oil pan gasket and engine mounts
Repaint the wheels
Get a quote on redoing the headliner and driver side head rest
Order new carpet
Front suspension refresh
Rear sway bar
PDR

Nice to read you use the car a lot, the more use, the more fun!!
Don't repair all broken things, because one thing repaired, another defect apears!!

Sunroof slider install went horribly and I ended up making the sunroof much worse than before and it's no longer functional. I probably need to order all new everything (cables and rails) and dump this car at some shop to do the work. I'm tired of messing around with the sunroof and never getting it 100% correct.
Also finally replaced the alternator bushings with delrin pieces from AKG Motorsport. No more belt squeal.

Got pics of that sunsroof drama? Happy to help, and I know a thing or two about those sunroofs.
I have some e21 sunroof parts for sale. Think most of it is NLA at the stealer.

Where to begin. So the cable snapped on the driver side, simple enough fix. The rails themselves are bent up and the screw holes in the roof are stripped for the most part. I also don't have a good headliner piece that has the clips for the sliding rain rail.
When I bought the car, it was jammed half open and would NOT move. I finally got it fixed to a point with some used cables, lots of cleaning, and taking it all apart a million times, but the stripped screw holes make the bent up rail pop up and not provide proper force on the cables to keep them in place.
