even if i have to get them re-build, they where embarrisingly cheap for what they are.
I believe they came from a porsche 996 or 997.
hard part now is finding rear's of equal qaulity to match.

I have Escort Cosworth competition rears on MIB. They're very nice and I'm sure I've seen alternatives still available. Just a thought anyway.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I have been looking at vw mk1 and 2 stuff, plus anything else that looks like it may fit.

I hadnt forgot you had fitted them, Just purchased a set of AVO adjustables from a escort cosworth to try for now, they are coming with shorter mains and helper springs. AVO only want £25 +vat to rebuild so will send them off and try them, The rear coilovers are the same for the GTX and GTZ kits.

Managed to get some more done today,
AVO escort cosworth rear dampers Vs E21 with lower springs
Image

Build up the front subframe to save the bits getting lost and clear some floor space.
Image
Rear subframe nearly complete
Image

On the car for a few checks
Image
Image

amber and toe plates work well
Image

Maximum negative camber
Image
mximum positive camber
Image

Need to get those arches rolled!!
No brake disc is fitted so the wheel will be pushed out a bit more still
Image
Image

this is the ride height i hope to achieve but length fo damper at this point is only 16"
Image

damper length set to 21" the free length of the E21 strut.

£25 per strut seems a bargain to rebuild those Avo's. I'm sure you know but, for those that don't, be careful when you roll the rear arches. After a certain point the rear quarters just kink and can ruin the panel. I'm sure with your skills though, you'll be able to get enough clearance. I think Mick @ Pristine managed to achieve 25mm on each side. Excellent to see more progress anyway. :thumbsup

Mark, how did you mount the escort struts at the top, my avo units are 12mm rods vs the e21 10mm.

I may strip them down cut them down and re machine the ends to suit the e21 top mounts,
what was the issue with these not fitting correctly?

I may considder them, the camber part is pointless for camber but what it will do is give me more tyre to strut clearance should i need it.
Although would like the rubber mounts for a road car.

They do fixed ones as you have to redrill for the adjustable ones, and they can do a 12mm sleeve nut.

Also when running escort rear dampers on the e30 m3 I had to extend the mount up wards (simple welded u bracket) as there was not enough travel and the shock bottom out with the stock mount height

Not that extreme there was no need to turret the rears, the damper fitted through the shock mount opening and two bits of angle, the upright portions with a half hex profile and a bolt hole in the centre and a cap welded across the top flats for a bit of strength.

I am sure a man of your calibre can visualise that.

My car is gathering dust, not sure when it will be looked at again as my job here is openended. So unless I get a longer term contract on big money so I can triple my rent and get a villa with a garage not much is going to happen.

At the minute I am tinkering with my caterham in the public car park to keep me occupied.
