I used to hire Smarts out after the red car was written off, still tempted to buy one now, as I think there true successor to THE Mini (as opposed to Der Mini).
I drove one up to Lancaster from London to view the E21 I've got now. A 520 mile round trip, but I got out feeling fresh as a daisy. Very impressed by them.
Just don't drive them in a heavy crosswind. On the M6 going through the Pennines, there was crosswinds. In a normal car, you might feel a wiggle at the wheel.
In the Smart, I was fighting to keep in the same lane...

you dont see many smart cars (if any) in nz for a few reasons:
1. the wind (particularly in wellington)
2. parking isnt an issue like europe/uk
3. cities arent as packed in, so you do more 'regular' driving than stop- start slow stuff
4. they're gay.

took on british gale force winds in the ol smart last night, wasnt too bad, but wasnt to great either.
Hmm, wonder if a Brabus-tuned lump would fit in a Mini? hey, they sling in motorbike lumps all the time...

brabus only puts out 94 bhp, maximum tune there still only putting out 130, you are better off with a bike engine then turbo'ing that, smart cars are too tuned for economy, even the Brabus!
and you will never get rid of the pants auto box! all the ecu is linked. if you stripped down the block and ran it on stand alone might get you lot more power, but even the charade gtti puts out 130 bhp as standard, lot more tunable!!!!

Just for the record, I'm a fan of Smart cars, the plate just made me laugh.
Love seeing them around, not sure if I have the confidence in my own manhood to drive one though

im not anti-smart car either tbh. the main reason i wouldnt own one is the thought of what would happen to me in a head on (or any) collision. they're tiny!
