I wanted to have an idea how the front suspension from e36 would fit, so i fitted it with tie-raps:

now i have an indication where the control arms should be.
The steering rack is to low now, so i bought a sump from a bmw x5, which does not have the sump in the front.
with the x5 sump fitted, the powersteering pump will still be in the way. so i bought a electic pump from a citroen berlingo
i hope i can make that work.
when i got rid of the powersteeringpump the situation was like this:

so i used a pulley from the timing belt from a m40 engine, and put it on the tensioner.

There are still several things that need to be done before the engine can get into the engine bay.
I made some progress on the base plates where the engine mount will be welded to.
the right side was not that big of a challenge.

however, later i made an other one because on the top right side, this one isn't exactly perfect.
on the left side, the oil lines run trough the motor mount on a 740i.

i found out that on a x5, the motor mount is mounted on a other position and there is a separate flange.

so i made this:

Very cool. I'll be watching this project intently.
It's almost like a merger of both of my own BMW's (E21 and E39 540i)

Amazing work. Could you show/photo how you integrated the rear lollipop bushes for the new front arms?

I haven't mounted them yet. first I have to fabricate the front subframe. But i have to fit the engine in the engine bay to see how to make it.
I have been busy with the flywheel. when that's finished, the transmission can be fitted to the engine.
so.. I deleted the part closest to the engine from the duall mass flywheel.
the part what is left looks like this:

Then I had a machine shop make this bushing for me, and pressed it in.

I had a flywheel from a automatic trans, milled the center out, put it over the bushing and welded it to the flywheel.

then milled all the excess material by the machine shop.

I TIG welded the bushing to the flywheel and brought it to a clutch/flywheel specialist who balanced it for me and made me a sinter clutch.

I'm not pleased to say I have made verry little progress.
It is becouse I had to move it all to an other shed.
This is the last week of moving, but then I still have to get the new location installed as a workshop again.
I allso have been busy drifting my e36 325i. That allso took some time.

I know its not e21 related, but this is one of the reasons why I build this project.
I hope the e21 wil be more sideways with more smoke than the e36.
so here is another picture:

and hey, its stil a BMW
