Thanks for that. I think this is too advanced for me though. Also, would prefer to keep things orginal if I can.

I tried to mount a newer model indicator stalk with the three prong relay. Indicators worked fine but no flashers in the dash :(

Definitely know it's the relay now!

Found this cheap 4 wire indicator relay on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301305252289? ... Track=true

It has the same connections, same power ratings, should work in the BMW, you'll only have to pull the wires with connectors out of its housing and connect them to the relay without housing, because the patern is different.

But it saves a lot of money

Arrived yesterday, fitted today.

Works perfectly!

Just wired the connections like you said, they were even marked with the same numbers on each connector.

Thanks Bertje!

Jeroen, I think you should put this in the FAQ section.

Great quick easy & cheap fix for broken indicator relays.

Although I have not tried this myself, this may be useful to get the orginal relay working again:

I love this fix! I havw the same problem and will be looking for bad grounds & stuff. Does anyone know the details of that 4 terminal flasher? BMW wants $250 for one and I'm all for cobbling in a replacement. I was thinking of making one out of an Arduino board if I couldn't find a cheap fix.

The ebay link is obviously not immensely helpful but maybe someone else has the same part - if I knew what the part number was.

Thanks!

Is this the same thing? h t t p://www.amazon.com/Autotech-4-Pin-Electroni ... B074QHJ8RZ I can't find a suggested wiring diagram for using it with a single indicator but it seems like it might do the same thing. I liked the video post someone added, so I will pull the flasher and try cleaning the relay contacts. The Amazon device is like $9 which is way better than BMW's $250.

Hmmmm I never had any issues there, but there should be enough used relay modules around as well, or not?

I'd prefer to get one I know works, but that ebay listing was 4 years ago and the 'relisted' link is dead. They didn't show any part numbers unfortunately. I did find it again, but the posting says they won't ship to the U.S. So that kills it for me anyway. :(
