Actually I have some brand new chrome filling strips for the rubber seals but the guys haven’t got the right tool to put them in so it should be in soon.
You don't need any (good/special) tools to put them in :?
Just 4 pair of hands and a screwdriver for example - I did it last month with all my windows/strips. Its only cost you a few hours.

cheers

Hi Ronaldo,

I know thats exactly what they've done with the side and door windows. But is it the same with the windescreen andrear window rubbers?

Thanks

Hi Arsh,

Yes, its exactly the same. I also used vaseline/oil and a heated garage  and a lot of patience

Cool Ronaldo,

Thanks for the tip, I'll see them today so I'll pass on the advice. I'm not sure if I'll mention the vaseline though, I'll let them work out if they need any lubrication by themselves!

Hello Arshad,

Very nice. A credit to E21s. The wheels look in keeping with the car. Like yourself I'd give the side stripes and rear spoiler a miss. She looks perfect without the bells and whistles. I can also confirm that the plastic chrome seal trim on the window seals can be fitted by hand - best in hot weather.

When are you planning to have her on the road?

Regards, Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the compliment, I'm in Manchester so not too far, might have to arrange a meet sometime so I can pick up some pointers from your lovely example.

Anyway I plan to have everything sorted within 3 weeks but having problems sourcing some of the chrome trim. Ordered a chrome trim for the drivers side (well offside on my LHD car) turned out to for the passengers side. Little issues like that which are counting against finishing it. Anyway will keep you and everyone else posted.

No problem guys!

I've been busy getting the interior sorted out again. Carpet is out to be cleaned, and then the floor will be sealed, before putting it back in. I've also added a sports steering wheel and a few other bits for the outside. Pics to follow very soon, watch this space!

Hi Guys,

I know I’ve not been too good with the updates, and this is less about my car then Roberts. He came to pick up a sports gearbox I had for sale, all the way from Holland. I wasn’t sure what time he was getting to my mums place so it was a nice surprise to see a E21 320 pull up to my house just as I was going to get the paper!

After some tea and biscuits, and safely storing the gearbox in Roberts car, it was time to take a couple of pics. You can just about see my car in the second photo.

As for my car I’ve just had the injectors and the fuel lines replaced and the car now runs beautifully. Just a few minor body trim parts to order from Walloth Nesch, and then I will post some more detailed pics. For now you guys can Enjoy Roberts’s car, love the yellow headlights :D

Time for an update then! My 323i has seen yet another transformation. Not sure if I told anyone on the forum that I bought an excellent condition E30 325i with air con, the plan was to drive it around for a year ad then swap over the engine to my E21. However, when my mechanic friend who had three weeks to kill persuaded me to do the conversion quicker.

Perfectly useable 325i

Image

Now looks like this!

Image

Its now 90% there. Initially I was worried by the amount of E30 ancillaries that have gone into the conversion. I was of course happy with the engine going in, but now it has the complete wiring loom (so yes it’s fully Motronic), and even fingers crossed the air con! One advantage of installing the complete E30 loom is that other E30 extras can be added. We’re now modding E30 electric window motors to fit and also the electric sunroof. I know it’s not important to many E21 purists, but I like the idea of these luxury touches, especially since it should look like a factory job by the time it gets done.

As for the gearbox, Jimi might need to eat his words on this one! We managed to attach the speedo pickup to the original E21 LSD diff. My friend had a spider wheel from the E30 diff machined from an engineer. The speedo pickup now sits outside the diff and everything mated up to the millimetre and works perfectly.

Decided not to drill into the gearbox, and placed speedo outside the diff using a custom fabricated spider. Simple!

skimmed the halfshaft a little so everything fits perfectly.

We then decided to source a good LHD E30 dash, so that it would hold the air con and instruments better than modifying an existing E21 dash. At first I was worried that it might look out of place, but it actually feels like it belongs in the car and of course will be easier to attach all the heater controls air conditioning vents etc too (more detailed pics to come), and prefer the way it cocoons the driver better than the E21 does.

easy to fit, but metal support does have to go

Image

It was a also a relief to be reunited with my Bilstein Sports (nice to see they have a label with my name on it) These will be installed next, along with some brand new Ventura springs I got from ebay a few years ago.

Image

Image

Been busy with the details too. Wiper motor cover for example was cleaned up and repainted in satin black. One of the mods required to fit the E30 air con will probably mean that it won’t fit, so I will have to modify a spare wiper motor cover I have, then get it resprayed so it looks like a factory job.

Image

Well that’s all for now folks, dash should be going in soon, then I need to see an aircon specialist to regas the system and also supply a condenser (the original one doesn’t fit behind the valance.
My car has picked up the odd chip hear and their. Still looks excellent, but while I have a little money it will go to the bodyshop for a little touch up here and their.

Original E21 recaro seats are also to follow (pics soon) and then get the alloys refurbished, and then we're almost done.

Leave you with some shots of work in progress, covers off fairly soon :)
