Ah progress! As for the paintwork, I'd either sue the painter
or take it as it is, it's a track car, not a show car!

Up-date on our track car build, work done June 21 & 22, 2014.
• We finished the engine assembled once off the engine stand with the flywheel, clutch, starter and tranny bolted up to it. We then installed the assembly into the car along with the shifter, headers, alternator, and drive shaft.

• Doubled checked all the suspension hardware for torque and then finished running the front brake lines. Then bleed the brakes and cleaned up the mess.

HOPEFULLY SOON WE ILL BE

Clean work sir, and the cage, awesome. Nice progress! But, I was wondering if the front needs an additional cross bar, what are the thoughts on that?

Thanks Jeroen and Peter.Jeroen wrote:Clean work sir, and the cage, awesome. Nice progress! But, I was wondering if the front needs an additional cross bar, what are the thoughts on that?
There will be another front cross bar - in the second picture and others you can see the short flat tubes with gold bolt heads in them on the front down tubes. These are where the cross bar will go, but I need to finish the install of the motor and all the rest of the stuff like the radiator and hoses first. Then I can make it so it clears everything, it will be out of 1.5" OD tubing just like all the rest of the cage.

You're still using the 885 head in the engine aren't you? Which gaskets did you use on the larger intake ports?
Love this build, I've been following it on bimmer forms for a while now...

I need to look at the number on the head it is the E30 iS head - the used the stock gaskets and port matched the head to them. Intake gaskets for the head are way bigger then the ports in the intake manifold. Now sure how it is going to work not the best mating of intake to headMicroang wrote:You're still using the 885 head in the engine aren't you? Which gaskets did you use on the larger intake ports?

Should be an 885 head then, yeah the ports are almost squares, I'm doing the same sort of setup on mine as I refuse to use fuel injection although mine will mainly be a road car. 4 barrels are the way for combining power and economy, can't wait to see how yours goes.Old Man wrote:I need to look at the number on the head it is the E30 iS head - the used the stock gaskets and port matched the head to them. A good 4 barrel is as close to a muscle car as most can get in the UK, though here cornering is essential.

Re: 2.5 320/6 Racer -Oldman - So Ca USA
We did some more reassembly on the car this past weekend and as well as a little the weekend before.
We worked on installing the dash, wiring, gauges, windshield and external engine components. As for the open wiring goes, we plan on putting in some wiring loom once we get the motor running and everything working.
Gauges are the same configuration that we had in the car and the three lights above and to the right of each gauge are idiot lights for danger zones. Have to install the dial for the brake bias and figure out where to put the volt meter gauge.
