Not jacking pads, there are where the shell sets on the frame in the factory. Don't jack there, but W&N sell them and easy to make

No I haven't, and wont be, lt will stop any garages lifting there when it comes to MOT time as well, I will probably weld a 25mm x 40mm x 3mm length of box along the length of the sill and install the new BMW style rubber jacking points to keep my underside from getting all scratched.

had a great suggestion from a friend as well the other day, he installed electric assisted steering in his Fiat arbath rally thing like this

But if the budget does not allow like mine i will be doing this:

plus this

Drove a quick rack e21. Steering isnt heavy and you dont need to turn much so isnt a problem for parking.

I found a hole under the jacking point . Thanks for helping me decide that im not putting it back either. Bloody rust trap! In fact im taking the other side off too.

Managed to change the front crank pulley on the X3 m47TU today. Not easy but with the aid of a 4 post lift managed it.
jammed a 4' long crowbar on the flywheel at 6 0'clock, lowered the car on to it with the lift, 3/4" 6 foot beaker bar to get it off!!!! and still required a lot of effort.
The TIS for the engine specified 100nm then 150 degrees, its a stretch bolt. set the torque wrench at 320nm like most other m47's request and it clicked off way before the angle was reached. So i reckon there is a good 400-500nm holding the sucker on!

All set for the 7.5 hr drive to devon more updates will come after I get back the following week.

Trailer came out well.

What's the plan for the engine? I've not had experience of the M42/44 engines, are they based on cut down M50 dimensions and bell housing pattern?

As far as I have seen so far they are just a cut down m52/s52, so I will be robbing a lot of valve train stuff from them if possible to build a 2/3rd s52/54 engine.

Been looking at gearboxes, would like an m3/330i 6 speeder if budget allows, but failing that there is always the e30 318is getrag 240's which are cheaper, but implode at 300lb/ft, which is still more than enough.

more likely to be supercharged, i think, but really trying to resist the temptation to start chasing numbers. I set out to get 200hp n/a but if i fall short a few psi may be required.

p.s my m10 with 5 speed, prop and the better webber carb fitted will be for sale soon.

I must be going daft, just realised the e21 323 5 speed should fit the M44 as well, as the common conversion is the m52 into the 6cyl e21's, then i can keep the mechanical drive as well.

Does anyone have one for sale? sports or economy or both?
