Here are some pics (flickr gives me hard time showing the BBC code required to embed images)

Cracks on the block are clearly shown. Two types: Cracks dealt with, (which can be seen on the block when it was newly assembled-but the mechanic then claimed this shouldn' t be worrying me as he had addressed the problem by pressing second "pots" inside), but, new cracks all around.

Some pics (already posted probably above, but, you know, phob@st@rds :wtf ) showing the block before, the cracks repaired and the rest holes in good condition. Now, you'll ask me: why did you accept this block on the first place? Well, I believed the mechanic telling me that I would not have any problems from this.

You can also see the cam sprocket (this is the term?) which is BROKEN!

Like I said, you've got fcuked hard, and not by a nice girl, but by an ugly mechanic. Those people should be in jail.

Proceeding slowly but steadily with the new build.

I would like your opinions guys : The block we are proceeding with, is painted blue. Please give me your ideas, would you repaint it in black or leave it in blue?

Opinions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Pics soon

Nice photo report, almost there..

One thing i don't understand is the copper grease between the head gasket, is that something special?

Thanks guys
Pictures are a bit-couple of months- late I'm afraid... car's already on the road but had not posted here for some time.
Much better than before:
-fires up immediately
-no more issues with fumes :fumes from the previous engine proved to be steam mixed with oil
-no oil spills at all (up to this moment) even though we had to remove the "labyrinth" inside the rocker cover, due to the use of ARP studs instead of bolts - so I am expecting to see some spills from time to time, however I haven't seen anything up to now
-Oil and Coolant levels in full up to now, no leaks and of course no consumption, like before
-more power, less noise and more economy even though it now has twin 45mm weber carbs vs the twin 40mm weber of the previous engine
-civilized and torquey from low rpm, I really can drive it making changes in 1500-2000 range, like a diesel if I want (although I know it is not the best thing to do with twin weber carbs)
-lately mechanic tuned the carbs even better, and a small stalling I was experiencing at about 2000 rpm is almost gone.
-sounds magically,it is addictive.
-fantastic on the motorway with the 3.45 which also helps it to be civilized in the city traffic, I may rethink about the 3.64 however as I seem to miss it a bit (to come to an older discuss we had Jeroen :innocent )
BertjeConti what you saw there is not copper grease, it is a spray of liquid copper, used to strengthen the gasket
