Just insured the TWR in leu of picking it up on Friday and taking it to it's space in the workshop where it will spend the next few months. I've been quoted £270 for a limited mileage policy with just 1000 miles! Seems expensive to me.

It was funny explaining to the guy that ''no, it isn't a 635csi'' and ''yes, that's right three thousand five hundred cc's''.

Anyway, has anyone insured a project whilst it's being built as opposed to a regular road traffic insurance?

That is slightly on the high side, I pay £350 f/c on the cab with the M30 in her.
I thought it would have been alot less with your age

Well we picked up the TWR last night (thanks Bernie & Dave) and it's now safely tucked up in the workshop awaiting the first job on the huge ''to do'' list.

I also started tracing the cars previous owners and history. First name on the list was the TWR service manager who's name was on the original invoice for the 335i conversion. It only took a few minutes and a bit of lateral thinking to trace him and get his number. Fortunately, he has fond memories of this era and had no problem remembering the car or its original owner.

The car was originally supplied as an Alpina C1 and was bought by an extremely wealthy guy who made his money from sugar plantations. He bought the C1 and also owned a 308 Ferrari. Anyway, the opportunity arose for him to test the 335 demonstrator that TWR had. This is the Sapphire blue car that Tiff Needell drove. Anyway, the service manager met him on the M4 with the car and then followed him in his C1. Well tried to anyway. After a few miles they pulled over and the guy refused to get out of the drivers seat. He got out his cheque book and said he wanted it. After explaining it wasn't for sale and eventually prizing the keys from his fingers, they agreed to convert his C1 to 335 spec instead.

So,Kevin at KR Motorsport was right. He told me he had done a bit of paintwork on a Sapphire Blue 335i E21 about 20 years ago when he worked at a company called Altered Image. So there aint 4 cars, just 3 in 3 colours, instead of 3 in 2 colours(?) :?
There's one out there with my name on it.

Seems so. That car is currently stripped back to a bare shell and has had all new floorpans, sills etc etc. It's been in various bodyshops for the past 6 years.

How the hell does it take 6 friggin' years to get a rusty shell completely renovated? I know guys who do top-class work in a fraction of that time.
Some people really have too much money to spunk up the wall.
