I took the corner at high speed, came in the ditch, drove straight through a garden, flipped over 4 times and then I lost control of my steering-wheel!

The New South Wales and Canberra chapters of the BMW Car Club of Australia teamed up for a run to the small town of Berrima yesterday. A large contingent, about 20 from Canberra, turned out. There were four e21s, a genuine Alpina, which belongs to one of our members here, a genuine Motorsport 323i, a John Player Special (which is mint and a credit to owner) and my own opal green 323i. It was great to see them on the highway.

Couldn't go past this e30 either with 3 litre Turbo - imagine transplanting this into an e21:

Hi Chris,

It was a great roll up of some special E21s. Some of the others were pretty good as well. I was pleased to have 4 E21s there. Normally on a club run, mine is the only E21. I hope this gathering can continue and expand in the future.

I did. In fact there were just a few random spots of rain all day so was really lucky.

As you might have noticed in the photo, I had a passenger in the shape of one of the instructors. If only I'd done it sooner. :stupidme I must have done hundreds of laps by now but after 20 minutes with an experienced racer I managed to put in consistent sub minute laps. It was just little things like being too early on the power in some places, or turning in too early etc, but I guess all those little things add up. Anyway, it was well worth £25 I know that. I just need to start saving for the next one.

I know it's not an e21 but the old 325 feels properly sorted now. It just feels so planted and really inspires confidence. The only change I would like to make is to the brake master cylinder. The pedal just feels a bit long and almost as if the brakes are working in 2 stages? I might have to look at some budget options?

I was there :P rather see them in action though

BTW Mark: ur oh so right, you can invest in your car all you want, but not the car nor its suspension is the biggest limitation, it's the driver. So much to learn and if you want to improve by seconds instead of thenths, you should invest in good driver training indeed. Way to go!
