BMW 315 550hp "black smoke"
Re: BMW 315 550hp "black smoke"
never heard of it. from his pic it looks like its in the coolant passages thru the block. itll do naff all to strengthen anything there if you ask me, just make the engine heavier and mean theres not as much coolant circulating.
as for passing rods thru the block. sounds like a bit of a bodge. like living in a old falling down house, i wouldnt want to rely on them braces stopping the roof falling in on me!
engine wise, id rather have a reliable 300 bhp than and engine producing 550 thats going to break at anytime cus its relying on some concrete in the coolant ways thats supposedly stopping it splitting in two.

Yep Yep. Murran. This engine made 550hp +75hp nos fully original bottom end
As you are look that bicture of a block you know at there is not that much on engine filler. or do you??

Bodge, not sure about that mate, pretty well known 'modification' but not as sophisticated as the 'Murran raw plugged rad' mod though a
I know what you mean about reliable power, as much as i'd love to test the limits of an engine design i couldn’t afford to do it - so i don't do it, but engine building like in this thread puts a smile on my face, i think its great.
Ohh, and people pay a premium for living in a older house with charter you know - crazy sods!

If 300hp is good enough, that is good. I d rather drive 600hp

Murran, its pretty common for high hp drag cars, but no so common for street cars, due to the reduced cooling (whereas drag cars only run for a few minutes, and can run methanol, which burns cooler). the block filler stuff has the same thermal expansion properties as the block. i wouldn't have thought this engine needs it, but its not the sort of thing you add without a fair bit of engine building knowledge and consideration, so imagine that if he's added it, its because it needs it. it is possible to partially fill it i think, so you get a compromise between extra strength and still have good cooling.

Re: BMW 315 550hp "black smoke"
i'll stand corrected then. might have a read up on it, just not something ive heard of before.

Sprayed some coatings on the pistons. On the top is ceramic.
Also painted the block VHT and hit it new ploms.

Jeemu is using the engine cement because his OM block is SO tired as it can be!!
Doesnt handle 3bar boost anymore...

Re: BMW 315 550hp "black smoke"
tired block are the best! think of the old m10 engines laying around and later used for e21 gruppe 5 800hp+
Re: BMW 315 550hp "black smoke"
Haha. When that engine was stock i used almost 3.5bar of boost. It made 480hpS_Kaulaote wrote:Jeemu is using the engine cement because his OM block is SO tired as it can be!!![]()
