Well the Astra OPC is abt 37K here and a 2.0 Leon with some goodies added will be abt 30K... to me that's too much. I just refuse to pay a lot of money (tax!) for a daily driver that never ever is going to give me as much driving pleasure as the old bimmers do.
Of course I have thought about buying a car myself but with the restrictions for the compensation of expenses and the number of km's I do (abt 40K) that's just not viable.
Might go looking for another job... either one that pays me double the salary so I don't care about the tax
or get a job close to my home with only little travelling... then I'd get me an E21 daily driver on the double and a 316 with a good suspension would be more than enough.
Life is hard I guess... trying to find a perfect drivers car for close to no money at all. Not too hard if it can be used but these new cars...

An A150
we have a special dealer on Avantgarde packages, you now pay 995 Euro, not the normal 2500 Euro
You should be able to buy one for 23K. With aircon (who needs that
) and stereo 25K.
I would be crazy enough to either refuse a car from work or buy a 116i ... in your case, I would proberly take the Mini ...

Yipee! I'm building my fleet back up again! Ive just bought my 3rd car, specifically for the winter. A 1994 VW Golf 3 dieseasel 1.9 TDi.
It cost me 500 euros, and has TUV until August 2007!!
Let's see how long it lasts!

No, because I still own my 993 and Bimmer and the Golf is a 1994 a virtual antique by German standards, it HAS to be NEW here......all in the name of the environment (conveniently forgetting how much energy it costs to churn out these aweful crappy new carsJeroen wrote:See the Le Mans thread... so you're more German than Brit huh?

Also to own 3 cars here is not very Stereotypically German! "It's not needed" they would say!

No one's added to this one for a while so I thought I'd better get the ball rolling again!
My e21 is my daily driver, so I drive that 90% of the time, although my wife has a 1973 Dastun 1200 coupe (early 70's sunny coupe for you european guys or B110 for the Americans).
The old 1200 is great actually- with a few handy mods, we've transformed the car- late model brakes (the originals were scary!), heavier swaybar, extractors and a webber. Stock hp is 69hp- I can't see the exhaust and webber adding too much (although it has a 1 3/4 inch exhaust on it now - the original was a weedy 3/4 inch!)
With only 730kg to push around, it actually is reasonably zippy and gets around 40mpg with the webber on it!
My wife wants a new car soon, so I'm actually thinking about taking the e21 off the road to do some repairs, and use the 1200 for a while... it's like driving a gokart to work!

damn i wish i had a datto 1200. theyre awesome. either one of them or a 1600 sedan. dont ever sell it cos they'll be worth tonnes in a few years.
im still driving my mr2, well i will be again in a week when i get my manual gearbox into it. i am building a new race car at uni again, for the formula-sae series. its going to be less than 200kg all up, and is powered by a brand new aprillia 550cc vtwin. i am designing the suspension components, and have almost finished the uprights. according to solidworks they will be just over 300grams each. chassis is aluminium honeycomb and suspension arms will be made from carbonfibre tube with alloy end inserts. other features include pneumatic (steering wheel buttons operated) clutchless shifting, engine and accelerometer datalogging, and custom three piece wheels which have single central nuts to secure them. it should be drivable by june, all going to plan.
on another note, the 340i is booked for dynotuning in a few weeks, so i should be able to drive it after the tune is done. after four and a half years in the build, i am a little bit excited about this day.

From my sig you can get I have 5 other bimmers. All 6 series. Overall I had like 15 throughout some years.
Here is my current one:
83' 635csi/a updated at some point to later bumpers and resprayed. No issues with originality so it will have turbo fitted at some point.

The other is my 628 automatic. I'm the second owner and this car is just about perfect. Currently I'm giving it a complete engine rebuild. (tomorrow I'll be measuring bare block to see if it needs any fixing.)

And when winter gets nasty, and RWD cars can't get past my drive i use FWD toyota yaris, and with my careless driving it is still holding on
