air filters inside the wing is just a bad idea! there is little to no good airflow and its very turbulant, better off coming in through the front

i would create a littl section just to the right with some heat shields so you can have lots of nice chilly air

Rob, have you managed to fit a radiator hose on there yet? Looks tight?

The one next to the oil filter is tight but I'll be able to get a pipe on there. The lower hole and the one by the alternator fits no problem, though the pipes will need trimming. You could always fit a different rad, in these conversions I haven't seen a 328i rad fitted yet.

Hey,

The only thing stopping me currently is time and money! The last two weekends have been spent getting parts off my breakers for people, and inbetween that I've cut all the grot out of the boot floor. It needs a lot more fresh metal than I initially thought! I might take a week or a few days off to get stuck into it leading up to that weekend.

Cheers

i wonder if the 525TD inlet will fit? Might be even able to carry the m50 injectors over? the filter inlet on the TD manifold pokes out towards the front of the car you see.

When I start my conversion I dont want to cut into the strut tower.

I suppose the only way to find out is to get a TD inlet and see if it will bolt up...

or Nas you could just cut the manidold in half with a section out then using 6 bits of silicon hose and lots of jublie clips mount it back, would look proper motosport :)

custom inlet manifold would be the best bet. I dont think the inlet is totally round so you might struggle with getting silicon hoses to fit properly..

Is the inlet plastic?

yes its plastic and oval letterbox but uniform oval so it would still seal nicely. only becomes an issue when changing from one shape to another,

I've been in contact with Nigel and he's used a silicon bend with a reducer for the throttle body since the MAF is a bigger diameter and it fits. I was tempted to throw the engine back into my black 316 earlier this week since the 323i is going to need more welding (and I'm on a timeline...) and for the 316 I wouldn't like to cut the inner wing since it's a very good shell, so I would of got a silicon bend like Nigel. For this car though the shell is awful so it has the lovely hole in the side!

Next month should finally see a raft of progress! I'm having a clearout at the moment to raise cash to get it finished.

Thanks for the offer Tommi but I think we've got everything covered that weekend. I should have another workshop party later on in the year though.
