:) cheer for the kind words mate. I left leeds at 7am and picked up a mate from rotherham and we were there by 10:30. and we left about 4ish and were back in rotherham for 6:30.. it didnt take long at all. I used about a tank and a half, not bad i suppose we did 80-90 al the way there n back.

yeah i got the coilovers on the front fitted on bank holiday monday., I had to turn up the stiffness on the rears as they were much softer than the fronts and pretty bouncy - i did about 4 turns and this seems to have leveled out the stiffness.

Had to modify them to work with the willwoods. much quicker the second time around!

did it all on my drive meself. heres a shit picture as proof lol

Image

Also i got my rustbullet and paint brush out. and gave this shit a lick of paint - instead of hammerite blue (L0L) i have decided that my suspension parts will be shit silver lol. that rust bullet stuff comes in any colour as long as its silver.
The Gaz coilovers are gonna stay matt black though.

Image

Image

i fitted my polybushes on the rear arms - i used the old threaded bar / sockets, washers and nuts method. it might not look like much but it was a bit of a pain

Image

i fitted the painted front 23mm anti roll bar and the ARB polybushes and took it for a spin last night, and i have actually SOLVED the stupid 50mph shimmy "handshake" steering you get on these cars.

Its bloody brilliant to drive. Im going to be fitting the rear axle on sunday at my mates dads' garage in Sheffield (as in proper business type of garage lol) so ill have all the tools necessary.

323i Handbrake cables ordered from the dealers and arrived today £50 for the pair that cost me! its rediculous eh.

Anyway ill have more pics on monday i guess.

Good work Nas. Why don't you make and fit yourself a ''wonder bar'' to tie the front end together properly while your under there?

cheers mark. hardest bit is nearly over, i think the engine change will be much easier than replacing all the bushes and shit.

i was thinking bout that wonder bar while i was under the car last night. i reckon i will do it when the engine comes out.

edit - that bar does look pretty simple to make actually. i think i even have some bar laying around that will do the job nicely.

RPM are fitting all my bushes whilst I'm away on holiday next month. Did you fit the eccentric rear subframe ones?

i was very nearly going to buy those. i changed my mind as i thought that they wouldnt be able to give me enough adjustment to dial out all the camber. i also had a feeling that these would be a complete pain in the ass to adjust - hense the camber plates.

I also hear that these eccentric types of bushes like to move and then your camber settings are screwed. you might wanna chat to RPM and get thier opinion. there is a chance i might be talking shit lol.

the pic of the bush above is the normal rear arm TCA polybush.

I've got both types so I'll just leave it to RPM to decide which ones to go with.

IMO if your gonna go low on your e21, then your best off with the camber plates n eccentric e39 bolts. i can mail the part numbers for the bolts if anyone wants them?

if i was doing it then id go with nas's plates. the eccentric bushes look shit.

im not guna bother doing it. as even with the camber plates it doesnt solve the the problem of the cv joints not being at 90 degrees to the drive shafts with a lowered car. in my case this means broken cv joints while drifting.
i have broken 3 joints while it was on the old chopped lowering springs to prove it!
hasnt broken any with the spax suspention on it, as the rear ride height is quite high.

That's partly why my car is at the ride height it is on my coilovers. It was about as low as I could go whilst still keeping sensible geometry on the back end.

hi guys, today was a long long day, i finally did the rear beam / rear disk conversion.

you start off with shitty drums.

Image

undo brake lines, prop, exhaust and the rear coilovers, and then undo the rear beam main bolts and then struggle like hell trying to get the rear axle main bush plates off!

you end up with this

Image

Image

after much blood sweat and cursing

Image

Image

finally on.

i adjusted the rear camber plates so that it was on the maximum positive settings and the toe I put to 1 degrees.

the rear wheels sit with visibly MUCH less camber, theres still some negative camber i havent measured it yet, but i will take it to get the 4 wheel lazer alignment done.

When your on the motorway if you went about 90mph the car felt edgy and all over the road and pretty scary at high speeds.

Now the car is totally planted even at high speeds, and even more awesome when your going round bends! seriously cant tell you how much of a positive this has made to the way the car drives.
the rear anti roll bar has pretty much eliminated rear body roll.

some people had problems when fitting the wilwoods and having big pedal travel, i thought that i would have had the same problem after putting rear disks on but in fact the brakes are better than ever and theres no extra brake travel.

It doesnt look like ive done much but tbh its a pretty long winded and difficult job replacing a rear beam that hasnt been took off before! defo glad i didnt have to do this on the drive.

suspension and brakes finally done!!! :D

i can start on getting the engine out of the 525 wagon, ready for the engine swap.

Gonna enjoy the m10 engine and modern handling for a little while longer first - and have a month off doing any major jobs.
