Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Is it definitely the diff that has gone? or could it be one of the CV joints?

If its the diff, that'll be the first I've seen reported on here since I've been a member (7-8 years). Most failures have been the inner CV's.

PS BMW LSD Oil should of been this stuff:

Castrol Syntrax limited slip 75W/140
or by its old name Castrol SAF-XJ 75w-140

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-736-castrol ... w-140.aspx

Cheers Ben. I was using 75 90 I think :-(. Not sure what's gone yet I might try and pull it tomorrow. Would damages inner cv cause quite violent wheel lock mainly when the car is going anything from straight ?Thankfully I have done a lot of favours for a guy who rebuilds these diffs for fun so it will be getting a refurb and sold on. I've decided to go the e12 route and see what breaks next :-).

I think it was the diff that broke there then :screwy .

I've resurrected the diff thread in Technical if you wouldn't mind adding the pics and some spec info on your car there :thumbsup

Cheers
