Well made the long trip up to Leeds yesterday, left at around 4.30 am got there just after 10

Met Richard the owner, very nice and helpful guy, thankfully! As car was down the end of a very steep and slippery hill, i reversed the trailor into the tight drive but didnt want the back wheels of the tow car to go over the edge, onto the granite cobbles as id of never got back up

. This left the winch cable short by 20' so Richard lent me a long ratchet strap that just reached!
The long and winding road
Bit nearer
So close
Glad to see the back of that!!
Richard made me good tea and i think he was probably sad to see it go but even sadder that he'd left it so long.
Well once loaded we did the paperwork and to my surprise he pulled all this out
That made it all worth while to me, its not the best history file ive ever seen but it was a real bonus!
Once locked and loaded i then shot over to Liverpool and picked up a load of bits id bought before christmas, then down to solihul to pick up a nos oem rear twin exhaust system that e21Mark had given me a heads up on, with a buy it now of £75

Then dropped 2no 02 doors off in Coventry and bolted finally back to Eastbourne. Where a friend of mine and i struggled our twats off trying to get it into the workshop, as the brakes had seized, which now makes sense why id lost a stone cranking the winch handle back in Leeds!! Well with the help of the Pizza chef from over the road and the promise of a purchase

we did it, not very tidily but its in and locked away, ready for my proper inspection on sat.....Phew! Pizza was nice
few more pics
Look what followed me home!
Day...
turns into Night!
700 miles 18hrs 13 and half of those driving, now thats a road trip....

cheers Gra

Thanks for the positive comments guys

Well i went and moved her into my space at the workshop today and had a better look around. Well the engine turns over freely and we have a spark

A lot of the rust thats visble is only surface and should react well to a rotary wire brush!! She needs an outer nearside cill and a patch to the offside, ive got a very tidy bonnet and bootlid and 2 mint doors but might only need one as drivers door looks great but has a couple of dints from supermarket parking! 2 replacement wings, which i have, will be needed as the bottoms are shot on the car. The rear turrets will need localised patches, which ive got and where the tow bar has been fitted, will need a couple of patches, once removed! If any one wants one

Ive got to un-wire that and repair the loom but with a good bit of shrink wrap, it shouldn't be noticable. Interiors very tidy,

Next sat im going to get her as high in the air as poss and strip off underside anccillaries etc and start the wire brushing

get the rotten jobs out the way first. I will attempt to start her first ready to pull engine and 5 speed box out. Any way its a start and heres a couple of pics..
Shes got good company (Lotus Sunbeam)
Type 2 Westfalia 1 owner Original rhd Split rat bus and 2002 tii
Nice and warm/bright and power on tap
Very unmolested
Good rear seats, opening rear windows
Cheers Gra

Little update, due to weather and lack of motivation not much has happened but on a better note, ive sourced an excellent matching seat squab cover, for the damaged drivers seat

these are hard to come by, so pretty chuffed!! Things i have done are to strip bonnet, boot and doors from my doner car. So some progress, car should now be super original

cheers Gra
