VIN location

I know this may sound dumb, but I cannot find the location that shows the VIN for my newly purchased barn find. I have made the DMV transfer but they do not require that the VIN be seen by their personnel here in CA, unless it is an out-of-state car. And unfortunately, the keys were not available, and BMW says they cannot provide a key because the number is inconsistent. Now I have to double check the VIN against the papers, and also remove the ignition lock to access the etched in number of the cylinder. Any ideas on these subjects are welcome. Thank you.

In the engine bay, on the top edge of the inner fender, near the suspension turret on what is your passenger side. Stock, it'll be an unpainted area still in the base coat. the actual VIN plate is just inside the engine bay right next to it, along with a paint code sticker.

Thank you. BTW, your engine bay is very impressive. Good job.
