E21 323i Resto/Mod (Running M42 318is)

Hi all. New owner of an E21 323i which I purchased through this very forum
The car was originally a 323i but some of the former owners had already transplanted the E30 M42 318is engine and gearbox into the car along with some other mods including the Volvo 4-pot conversion and E30 rear brake upgrade along with some home made coilovers up front (which will be replaced). Generally the body condition of the car wasn't too bad compared to some I'd viewed, requiring the drivers floor pan, boot floor and odd pieces here and there to be rectified.
Plan for the car is a ground up full recondition/restoration/modification approach. Currently I plan to keep the M42 engine but increase the performance where possible, I don't need the car to be fast (got a V8 AMG Merc for going fast), just fun and nice to handle. I did consider swapping to the S14 but after speaking to various "experts" the M42 if done right will be just as much fun for less money.
Here's some pics of how she was before I started:

The car was a daily driver I believe up until early this year but was taken off the road for a number of reasons. As such I needed to get the car transported:

Safely in the garage, waiting for the strip down to start, along with my son photo bombing me
:

So I've had the car less than a week and time has been tight but so far I've got the following done:
The biggest patch/area of rust I've found so far

Interior taken out

Dash being stripped

Front window out

Worst spot of rust on the front window surround

Rear window out

Rust on rear window surround

Bumpers off

Rear subframe dropped

Stripped some of the factory sound deadening material

Next steps in the process (hopefully this weekend) are going to be:
1. Finish dash removal
2. Finish sound deadening removal
3. Remove front door cards & glass
4. Remove rear windows
Very soon I want to get started on the bodywork so need to get myself a decent MIG welder so any suggestions/recommendations would be great.
