Noisy Fan In The Heater

High pitched squealing from the blower, well it has been unused since 2001 and the heater is one of the few items I haven't removed from car during the rebuild!
I'm thinking it needs a squirt of WD40 on the bearings most likely, but how to get to it?

It is located near the firewall in the same area the wiper mechanism is in. Remove the 2 screws in the gutter and 4 bolts on the cover itself and you can easily get to it. Usually some lube fixes it for quite a while.

Yes, easy to reach, and lube has worked very successfully to me either

Hello,
Same problem on my e21 316. Sharp sound which come randomely. So accessible from the hood if I understand correctly ? Which lube do you use ? WD40 ?

Lube won’t really solve anything. I found it a hopeless design. You cannot service it and the bearings are the wrong choice, plus they are too small.
Two types were used and I think the motor from Bosch one can be bought new, but you need to transfer the fan blades.
The electrical connection differ from the Sofica, but with new connectors you can make it work.

Especially after standing for a long period, the axles tend to corrode and to my experience some lube, WD40 or slightly thicker if on hand, usually really helps.
