Electric cooling fan for 323i

Post by Atle_323i »

Has anyone used other cooling fans for early 323i, than original fan?

I need to fit a cooling fan on my 318 which I´m upgrading to 323i, the original cooling fan does not fit on 318 76 model, due to the little fan bump in the front is not on my car, because all M10 used cooling fan mounted to the engine.

I´m thinking about maybe using a Volvo V70 cooling fan. I think it will fit in the front.

If anyone got a better some better idea, let me know.

If you're upgrading your 4 Cylinder car to a 323i there is a small piece of the front panel you need to remove, this is just spot welded in, so an fairly simple matter of just grinding away the spot welds. Once you have done this you can install the 323i rad and manual cooling fan on the front of the water pump.

My experience is of facelifted models, it's just possible that the pre facelift cars are constructed slightly different.

Yes, I´m upgrading from M10 TO M20 323i, and the car is 76 model, which doesn´t have the radioator cut out in the front, like the facelift has, so I need to mount a blower fan in front of the radiator to cool the engine. I wasn´t thinking clearly when I concindered using a Volvo fan, because that fan is a pull fan, and mounted in back of the raditor in engine bay.
I think I´ll try not to cut out anything in the front, just get a smaller blow fan, than the original, because the preface 323i has a bump in front of the radiator to make room for it to fit. I even think I can use the original wires, and just fit the resistor to a blow fan, to make it a 2 stage fan.

There are Spal blower fans which is cheap, that has about 255/260 watt power, which is under 25A in 12V.
