Well I did lay the car off for over 6 months, progress is now resuming! Note to self, buy a better base vehicle first.

Re: BMW 323i M50 2.5
rob, about the steering link. if your downpipes are pretty much in the same place you should be able to turn it upside down so the rubber guibo is at the bottom.
i have found out the manual rack link is way way longer than the power steering link.

Re: BMW 323i M50 2.5
Back the last two nights. Finally got all the dense sound deadening up, now I'm left with an awful looking interior! Wire wheel and then paint I think...

Then tonight I cracked on with the rear coilovers

The lower joint is a direct fit into the existing shock bracket. I used some original E21 top mounts and removed the rubber core, then welded a plate inside the mount and drilled it to bolt on the shock clevis. Here is the complete unit against the scabby old ones!

I thought the springs looked long, they're 12" 250lbs. The adjusters are as far down as they can go, so any lower means new springs. Here's how it sits at the moment

Had to get something else in the workshop, so I thought I might as well get the car up and running again! Not far off now...
