M6 topic (E24-E63-F13)

Post by Jeroen »

The first M6 wasn't even called M6 except for in the US. The First ///M E24 was equipped with the 286 BHP M88/3 engine from the M1 and E28 M5 and was called M635CSi to distinct it from the 'regular' 218 BHP 635CSi. The US version was equipped with the 3.5 litre version of the S38, the engine that was also used in the US E28 M5. The S38 engine evolved and was used in later E34 M5's. After the 6-series was discontinued the 8 series was supposed to fill the gap but was found too progressive for the 6 series clientele. This finally led to the introduction of the E63 6 series including the V10 powered M6 with the same engine as the E60 M5. Now the M6 is announced for the recently introduced F13 6 series. It's supposed to be equipped with the same engine as the F10 M5, a biturbo V8 derived from the X5M and X6M and delivering at least 555 BHP.

Video covering the introduction of the E24 M635CSi. Dutch narrated but includes a worth while test lap by Nelson Piquet.

I believe that the M635CSi will be the next big thing (in appreciation terms\) for classic BMWs

Highly sought after

Quite useable

And one of the last "prow/shark front" in BMWs

Still looks sharp, and understated even today.
IMO

Beautiful lines and a powerful engine. Still the E24 is quite heavy which makes it less sporty than an E28 M5 with the same engine.

And the 6 series e24 has all that double plated bodywork, causing it to rust from whitin. If the paint starts to bubble, it's nothing but trouble...
