Long time since last update, small Bambus is keeping me busy :playcar But i have found some time for my E21 before the season started. :driving

Few pictures from BMW Classic 2012 photo shoot.

Rest of the pictures is here

I bought extensions for 323i front calipers conversion. Standard brakes are just fine for everyday use, but they fade pretty quick on track.

new tailpipe

I started with renovation of the rear axle In March

Small tip for those, who removed brakes before loosing half axle screws and big nut.

...the screw is done, but it helped :smoke

differential waiting for cleaning

I thing, something is missing there

another pile of metal...

I did get rid of rust on exhaust and painted it with heat resistant color.

De-rusting of rear axle and new paint.

I bought new wheels...

I hope they will once look like this:

Few more painted parts...

Cleaning of differential cover and some nuts and screw witch will be galvanized.

Santa Claus was little bit late this year, but it was worth the wait :banana

I hesitated long time, but then I could not resist and I installed stereo.
It is hidden (apart from the antenna) and removable without any traces.

...and after.

some of the galvanized parts

Differential on its place (it fell twice on my hand before i get it there)

rear axle ready to be installed

axle with new dampers in place

Image

rear brakes almost completed

Everything between stereo installation and here was done in one day. I was in a hurry because i went on racetrack the next day.

Because of gearbox failure, I did not manage to get into the actual race but I did drove in the morning and this is result:

I really need LSD :launch

yes yes! keep up good work! :)
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Thanks. First three pictures (and all in the linked gallery from photo shoot) were not taken by myself. As well as the last one, because I am the one siting behind the steering wheel 8)

Thanks guys. Right now, I am changing leaking water pump and I am stuck on removing the viscous coupling. As you can see on picture bellow, the screw is broken.

Image

I know how to remove the remaining part of the screw but it will be probably necessary to get some special tool to remove the visco. Any suggestions?

As to the work done before: please check the bolts on the diff output flanges. They tend to come loose again and that may cause quite a bit of damage.

Viscous coupling: with that metal ring out as already shown on your picture, you can now remove it. Maybe it needs some slight perseverance but it's loose now. Once removed you will find an aluminum part that the bolt went into that is easy to remove, with that off the remaining thread comes out easily. If the thread in the alu part is damaged, replace together with the bolt, otherwise just refit with a new bolt.

Thank for advice. You are right about bolts on diff flanges, they were loose. But i found it out quite soon so no damage happened.

I'll try to remove it and let you know.
