What are your other hobbies?

Post by Jeroen »

Another one to get to know each other better! Of course this can also be part of our "Facebook" section, but why not get things together here and discover what more we have in common, apart from our love for BMW's and especially E21's?! My other hobbies:

Photography
No news to most of you I guess! Got my first camera when I was 7, started taking pictures of cars on the track when I was 13 ending up doing F1 at the age of 15! Have done my share of motorsports photography over the years, nowadays I just do a few classic racing events each year like Le Mans Classic, Spa Classic and the German Oldtimer Grand Prix and provide coverage for a few magazines. Other subjects include travel photography, wildlife and animals in general.

HiFi/High End
That's been drawing my attention since my early years as well. Started working at local stereo shops at the age of 13 and ended up working at Amsterdam based RAF as High End specialist when I was in university. Even though I spent many years in the food and consulting industries I'm now even working in this business, well in the professional AV communications branch. At home I still have a nice stereo set. No multichannel systems for me, I'll stick to a classic setup. Turntable, cd player, preamp, two class A mono power amps and two loudspeakers. That works just fine for me!

Traveling
Prolly on everyone's list! I've done my share of traveling. Highlights for me:
- did two round trips on the US west coast (basically: LA, Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Fran and back to LA)
- visited many countries in our own Europe but the Alps, Italy and the city of Barcelona are my top of the list places, see E21 Alps Trip 2010 ; E21 Alps Trip 2011 ; 2012 Alps & Italy Trip
- got myself hooked onto Asia and especially India, for example see here

Football/Sports

I'm a big Manchester United fan and I enjoy going to the matches (I only live 4 miles from Old Trafford) or watching the games with friends. I also enjoy playing football, although I'm not of any real standard! Formula One is also a passion of mine, having been to Silverstone this year and always being interested in the sport.

Cars

Not just E21's or even BMW's, just cars in general, I love everything about them, no matter what the car is (within reason). My circle of friends reflects this, we have a wide variety of cars in our group, everything from my E21, to Jon's Renaultsport Clio Trophy, Oli's BMW E36 M3 Evo, or Dom's Audi S4.

Detailing

Slightly related to the above, but car detailing/cleaning is a huge part of my life. I like things to be right, and tidy. I have even been known to detail my toolkit :screwy

well those who know me will not be surprised at my love of gen 1 Camaros - I have two which I have owned for 25 years - one is a racer and I set up the classic Camaro Club UK then.

http://www.classiccamaroclubuk.com/phpB ... =13&t=2493

keen on winter sports- I used to ski race giant slalom in selected events, and love ice hockey having learnt in the Highlands of Scotland- when it was too bad weather to ski at Aviemore

I used to teach windsurfing in Cyprus but have lapsed since

Other hobbies include country pursuits - shooting and fishing- we have a Beat on one of the most famous salmon rivers in Scotland:

I also love poetry and have created some OK ditties- more if requested
As well as animals- we have 1 Border terrier, 2 burmese cars and 4 chickens which we constantly move around between our various homes in UK and IOM
very keen on old Jeeps- I did the welsh hillrally in a CJ7 2 weeks after taking my test in 1977 at 17- we now have 3 Jeeps- 2 are real V8 things.
anyway what I have found is that as I have got older the scope of activities has reduced- have now given up Football, and cricket having played both for the H Div. after I did my knee in.
