the purpose for this is to always have a consistent fuel supply for the pump to pick up. during hard acceleration, braking or cornering, fuel in the fuel tank will move around and the pump may suck air instead of fuel. in this new setup , fuel is pumped to the small tank in the boot using the in tank pump, that little tank is always full, so even during hard cornering or with a low fuel level, if the in tank pump cannot provide fuel, the swirl pot is full for the big main pump
It is very important for a motorsport pump like the 044 to always have a good supply, running dry can kill these pumps.
