Little round trip with an antique DC-3

Post by Jeroen »

Always loved the Douglas DC-3 for its looks and the wonderful sound of the two fourteen cylinder double star Pratt & Whitney's with 30 litres of displacement, each. Still very happy with the picture I was able to take sitting on the taxi lane during an airshow back in 2009!

But it was about time to get up in the air with one. One of the later DC-3's or actually the militairy C-47 version. Used in 1944 at D-Day and operation Market Garden, still has a few bullitholes from that, bought in 1947 by his royal highness Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. He used the plane for many years , both privately and for official trips of our queen and prime minister. After ending up in a museum the plane was restored into full airworthiness. A machine with a rich history! With quite some turbulence and a low altitude (1300 ft) it was a bumpy ride but still fabulously impressive!

Thanks, defo a memory for a lifetime and I may do it again one day. We have our fields with flower bulbs in spring... that is also a wonderful opportunity!
