Tyres

Hi,

I've just posted this on the old site, but am not sure that it will get a response there, so I will repeat it here.

I have a bog standard 4 door E30 320is. I am looking for some replacement tyres. The current tyres are Dunlops (not sure which model) which are lethal in the wet. I need something which will inspire a little more confidence in the wet, without wearing out too fast.

The car is on stock wheels and is not raced, but is not used for the shopping either.

I'd appreciate any help.

Regards,

Steve Dunphy.

Steve,

Yeah we moved to this forum... much better.

RU rusing 14" or 15" wheels then?

Perhaps you've got Dunlop SP Sport 2000 tires then? The worst I've ever driven, absolutely NO grip in the wet.

I was always very fond of the good old Michelin Pilot SX-GT but it's NLA and it's successors Pilot Exalto are not even close. A bit softer sides, a bit more comfort. But if you're not pushing her too hard that might be a good choice. For more sporty driving I can recommend Bridgestone Potenza's.

Thought we already had a topic on tires?

I agree. As you know, I'm very satisfied with my Bridgestone Potenzas S-03 Pole Position.

The possibilities fully depend on whether you have 14" or 15" wheels, however. Pole Positions are available in 205/55 R15, but not in - the standard 320iS - 195/65 R14. I actually believe that no current model Potenza's is available in that size. Not many other sporty tyres to choose from either, I'm afraid.

Hi Jeroem & Hannes,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have the Dunlop SP Sport 200 in 195/65 R14. I have to be seriously careful in the wet. I'm not talking about using the power, just tootling along. It just wants to slide out the apex on tight corners, even when going slow.

I was afraid there wouldn't be too many options in the standard wheel size, but in fact I tend to drive it a little more sedately these days, and a true sports tire might be a little OTT. I certainly didn't want to be spending money on changing the wheels at the moment.

Thanks again for your advice.

Regards,

Steve D.
