Removing the Emergency Brake Handle Boot

I’ve search this forum, and others, as well as scouring the manual to see how to remove the brake handle boot, but to no avail.
Does anyone have a good resource or a step by step guide for doing so? I need to do this in order to replace the carpet.

Hi Brad, the boot is wrapped around a metal base plate, you can just pull or wiggle it up

Thanks. I’ve been trying that, but since it’s been in there for 43 years it’s a bit reluctant to come loose.
