Hello to your new site

Post by Giorgio »

Hello and happy new year!!!If you remember in the ather site i have problem when the car is cold.I check the afm,all gaskets are new,new spurk plugs, new blue valves(2),and the problems exist.Injectors are cleaned, the bodies are syncronised, the co now was adjusted in 1,5but i was asked for the idle valve.I clean the valve and i find in www.m3bmw.com/tech/idle-control-valve.html to check the valve. The resistans is perfect but when i turn the key on it not does something. What you suggest?
Thank you for all

Well you should feel and hear if it's working so either
-it's stuck
-it's dead
-it doesn't get any current... that's the easiest one to check!

If that's the case... I'm not sure but it will probably be triggered by the coolant temperature switch, better check that one. And... it is switched on by a relay. But... that's probably the same relay as the DME relay and if the car runs the relay works. Wiring problem maybe?

Giorgo,

It is useless adjusting idle when the idle control valve could be dead, you'll have to solve that problem first. Probably the DME relay on the firewall, behind the coolant tank, switches it on but since the car runs I don't suspect it, I'd rather check the valve first, and check if you have any current on its connector.

If the valve is working again, make sure the engine is switched off. Disconnect the throttle switch and short circuit all 3 wires. Then start the engine and adjust idle. Warning: do not touch the gas pedal! The engine mgmt now doesn't know when car is or is not idling so it may backfire.

Code: Select all

Jeroen in the back site of the motronic has one triangle bolt. What does this and what is the correct situation. It has numbers from 1 to 7
do a search on s14.net on FQS or 'fuel quality switch'.

to your idle problem: the broken idle contriol valve has probably damaged the motronic (not the eprom that's inside it). This damage could cause your new idle control valve to go bad also.

Repair the motronic (search s14.net for 'bad ICV') and then go from there.
