Thanks, the radiator comes from the car itself. It was a 528 in good condition, so the radiator should be fine. Off course I will check it first and flush it.
Of course there is no connector to the old one, does the B35 need this connector? (there's one on the aluminum version)

Old ones vs new, well in both cases they should suffice as well, especially in our moderate climate and for road use. If the original solution doesn't work there's always a workaround but my approach would be to look for the cause.
I think(not sure) the 528 radiator is a little thinner than the facelift 528i-M535i version.

thanks for this! to be sure, we're going to use the aluminium one of the E34. I think the plug is for the temp switch for the electric fan.

Be careful when swapping filter housings and engines, there are differences between the oil passage on the early and late m30 blocks. i cant remember which way round, but one configuration will require a bung in the block, otherwise all oil pressure will escape and zero oil to the engine.

hmmm. interesting.. thanks guys! I didn't know that. I took of the oil filter housing and found out that there is no plug (of course)
So I'm going to put a plug in there, not the original BMW 11 12 7 539 543 part, because they want €14,45 for one plug and i need to buy 10...
is the gasket we used (see picture) okay? (i think its gasket nr 3 on illustration) there is another gasket (12) that will probably fit better I think, but maybe the one we have now is good enough..

Is your filter the open faced downward facing one?
if so use gasket no2, or just trim the middle bit off yours, Incase it brakes free when not clamped down and blocks the oil system as well as installing your bung.
Otherwise it should be fine.
The e34 filter housing has a self drain hole when removing the upward facing filter cap. This allows the canister to drain to the block on filter changes through the threaded hole, but stays full the rest of the time.
see my thread page 10, same gasket as you, e34m5 filter housing, no bung for draining during filter change. E34 1989 3.5 block

thanks for this. I'm not completely sure: We have a B35 engine with the upward facing b35 housing. We want to re-use this housing (so no down facing B34) can we install it without the plug in? so as it is now?
we use the upward facing housing without the oil cooler.
