Thank you again. I have been searching all around the other forums and this one. There is a lot about these switches. I think I have the problem with the spring and the plastic piece that holds it in. So even if I fix the detent, the spring may cause a short. I think I will try the jumper to see of I can get the blinkers working while I wait on a switch. I will post in the marketplace.

I was able to remove the spring and fix the detent. My switch is now working and blinkers are working. I will not be using the flashers so I will just leave it pushed in! No need to push my luck with that.

Just a quick update!

The car is registered and on the road. I will take it for its first ride tomorrow. Hopefully it will get me home. :)

I did replace water pump and some of the hoses.
I am still fighting with the heater valve that I replaces. I am having a hard time getting the cable in and held with the clip. The valve seems to close to the bottom heater core hose and when I twist it a bit to get the hose on, the cable clip pops off. For now, I just have it connected without the clip and manually move the lever when I want heat. Not a very good design in my opinion.

Thanks to the forum, I have done a lot of reading here and incorporated much of what I learned into the project.

:thumbsup fingers crossed for a lovely ride tomorrow Dan!

and for the heater controls... yup, horrible design and now the plastic is ageing, you may need to be a bit creative with tie wraps and superglue haha
