Bert, yes, clean it with a strong degreaser and paint it.
Same here, Koos. Can't wait 'til it's the end of September... :launch :cheers

Greetz,
Walter.

The inside is covered with the damping material. After that I got the frame from under the car, so I could sand and paint the contactsurface with the frame.

After tha, I prepared the car for spray on anti stonechip undercoating. I used Dinitrol 448, which is waterbased. Started with wrapping the car.

Rear side was a bit tricky, because i didn’t know where to put the tape. Where does the seam go? I took measures from some very original cars, but BMW’s did a poor job, none where the same. I even found one car with two very different sizes of the stonechipcoating.
I put the tape on 50mm from the panelseam.

Then I build me a nice paintbooth :bag

The result is very satisfying.

Since the body is ready fort he painter, I started working on the other parts that need paint.

The bonnet has some samll dents and minor rust on the known places near the air vent.

Image

Image

The bootlid, seems to be in a good nick. But the holes for the typeplate are not how I want them. Not straight and a wornout hole.

Image

A closer look shows a strange round shape.

Image

A push and we have an extra hole. This stupid car never seizes to amaze me…

Image

Another hole looks like two holes joined.

Image

Sanded it and found some rust around the holes. So I cleared the rust and welded the holes shut.

Image

Nuts and bolts from under the bonnet, front wings and bootlid and some other stuff that needs to be painted.

Image

Image

Boothlid with torsionbars and bonnetbar.

Image

My fresh sandblasted and primered front valance and boothinges

Image

When all was done, the car was ready for transportation to the painter.

At the painter who welded the roof back in 2012.

Now the car is gone for paint, I have some time for other chores. I went on with my popout windows, for which I bought those Chinese screws. But those screws were too long, so I cut them off. The head of the screw is slightly too thick for the lower moulding, so I grinded it down, because I didn't want them to scratch the lower moulding. After that I had the screws zincplated.

Image

Two normal and two grinded heads.

Image

Besides the screws, I need some ribbets to put it all together. I found these blind rivets, 5mm long and 3mm thick. Perfect fit.

Image

And put it together.

Image

Image

Image

Mouldings, rubber and glass.

Image

And this is what a brand new pop out window looks like. New mouldings (NLA), new rubbers (freakin’expensive), new glass (long, long wait)

Image

Image

To put the glass in the rubber and that in the mouldings, you need some lubricant. I used Dinitrol, which preserves the mouldings and metal connection angles. I ordered those angles at BMW’s. The upper one, 90 degrees, is NLA. So they send me the 60 degrees one, double. But as I tried tob end it to use it fort he upper corner, it didn’t fit. All three angles are only usable fort he corner that theay are meant for. The holes don’t line up on the other corners.

And we started on the paint job!! At first we started to prepare al the loose parts, starting with the bonnet and trunklid.

The bonnet was the best of two I have, but still some spots, lots of dirt and a rotten ledge.

Image

This much dirt came off…

Image

Image

This ledge is repaired, here before grinding and sanding.
