Re: Because race car.
Hopefully the engine I thought I had missed out on, has actually become available again. I'll know tomorrow I think. If so, it's a six pot.

Re: Because race car.
Unfortunately that engine fell through after the seller wasted my time and money. I get the feeling he was concerned someone might have made a profit and he didn't like the idea. He also seemed to think an m20/2.3 is worth big bucks. Anyway, you live and learn I guess and I now know how little the guys word is worth.
Well I've been looking at alternatives and trying to decide what to go with. The easiest and cheapest option is m20/2.5 and about 160'ish bhp. I could go with an s50/s54 and get close to double that power, but I would also need to upgrade the diff to cope, which will cost me nigh on £4 - 4.5k including the engine. The 3rd option is a Honda s2000 engine and 6 speed box. The OE LSD & shafts could just about cope I think, although it would be close to the limit. I then thought of this.....
A supercharged 1.9 twin cam which will give 200bhp, a heap of torque and a cool noise. The current LSD will also be able to cope, which would save me a few quid. The install will be considerably cheaper too, plus replacement engines are a couple of hundred quid, not a couple of thousand. Even if I didn't supercharge it immediately, I know from Jack's car, just what fun an m42/m44 is in an e21.

Re: Because race car.
How much is a super charger setup for an m42?

Re: Because race car.
£1k plus cost of supercharger, sundries & standalone ecu. £2k should cover it I would reckon. Obviously that's not including labour charges or mapping.

Re: Because race car.
Is it not worth putting a harness bar on the passenger side, very little extra weight and means you can put another seat in for trackdays etc.

Re: Because race car.
The captive seatbelt mounts are still there, so I can just use those and eye bolts.

Re: Because race car.
Chatted to GKD about their SC kits today. GKD have been pretty thorough in their development and bought an e36, an e30 and a z3 to be sure the kit will fit without any issues. This will be the first e21, but I don't see there should be any problems. It'll sound awesome!

Re: Because race car.
Mark, where did you get the arches, bumper and splitter from? Does someone produce them in fibreglass?
