2001 e46 318ci obd issues

Hi fellas

My obd2 code reader wont link with my feb 2001 e46 318ci auto there is a 16 pin plug under the steering wheel although only pins 1,4,5,7,8,9,16 appear to have terminals there doesnt appear to be any diagnostic plug in the engine bay.

The check engine light is on thats why i would like to read the fault codes thanks

does anybody have any suggestions for me to try next?

That's the later obd connector so that's what you need, with the E46 the big one under the hood was deleted. I use carsoft from belgium but there must be many more in Google land, just make sure to have the later type connector.
