Alpina rear stripes or black rear panel?
Dear All
Your opinion sought here!
Thought this should go in General as it is hardly "technical"!!
1 We have "Herman" with blank bit between rear lights- hopefully here:
2 Do we install that black blanking piece like this:
http://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=3010&nmt=B6-2.8-187
3 Or do we install the Alpina silver stripes like the car below:
http://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=10040& ... B6-2.8-461
The point is that I have a silver DEKO set en route and could make the rear look like either- the black blanking piece I have found is immaculate but the boot is not drilled (yet) to accept same.
Please note that yes we will be getting rid of the Chinese Alpina Roundal (not even straight!) and having BMW ones fitted on bonnet and bootlid- before you ask....
BTW I am always being teased about the number of "Alpina" badges/stickers on Herman by Steve and others- I am getting there! It is all part of the "de-chavving" exercise being undertaken!

Re: Alpina rear stripes or black rear panel?
I'd go with stripes.
Two reasons: the silver striping makes a nice contrast with the blue paint, and it sets the car apart from other E21's that have a black plastic panel there.
Even without striping I think I still wouldn't install the panel.

Re: Alpina rear stripes or black rear panel?
my personal order of preference is listed below.
1.Blanking plate as it matches spoiler.
2.Stripes...abit overkill imo.
3.Blank completely...dont look right somehow.

I think I'm one of the only people so far who like a plastic insert, as is standard with all e21's. However, as your is a genuine Alpina, I think the stripes look 'correct' I really like your car, but would you consider reversing the shadowline? Doesn't look bad I guess, just think it would look better au naturale.

Aha!arshad76 wrote:shadowline was the name of the option BMW gave for dechroming
sorry would prefer to keep the shadow stuff- it was quite a performance getting rid of the sparkly black paint (don't ask!) and making it shadow black!

You can get dechrome tape that works pretty well and is simple enough to apply.

Re: Alpina rear stripes or black rear panel?
well team we have gone with the Stripe kit
which is now fitted
I am not 100% happy with the stripes- I have Alun (who owns the only other B6 in GB) promise me he will take some measurements this weekend so we may compare!
pictures can be seen (hopefully) at:
and I will get around to removing the chinese alpina roundals soon- before you ask!
