My new daily

Post by Wondermike »

After driving a mompel mompel for 6 years it was time for a wind of change.
Already owning a couple of BMW's so it was obvious that our new daily would carry the :bmw sign.

First plan was to buy a low milage E39 with lots of options but after test driving a E91 320d we changed our search.
I was looking for a 320 petrol version but after spotting this car for sale in the neighbourhood we went for a test drive.
Two days later the car was bought.

It's a E91 325i with full M package and a nice list of options. Things missing are the sliding roof which is known to go bad and the navigation.
So nothing lost there.
Hope this car will give us as much pleasure as the mompel did.....or even more :launch

Well some quick pics of our first trip on the boat to Texel

Mompel is short for inferior french boat that always breaks down :bag

But the replacement is wonderful, a giant leap for Mr Mike!

mompel is Dutch for mumble. Mumble because Mike is not allowed to say the word (renault laguna)

Nice ride Michel! I know that a E91 is great, but in this trim and with this engine... :cheers

I test drove one of those - it was a sportback with a huge sunroof, seemed OK, but I still bought a mompel Focus instead.

I will be driving my Baur tomorrow all being well, and I have a new mompel as well, but I still like your BMW!

Jij gaat ook lekker door he..
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I have been driving this car for one and a half year now without any major problems.
Had some light bulbs without light and had an issue with the electric fan this summer. Just before the holidays i towed a trailer and let the car running stationairy for about 20 minutes after that. Car overheated and after some investigation the fan was declared dead. Fortunately this was discovered before the holiday and not in a traffic jam on the route du soleil with 1400kg of caravan on the towhook.
So that was the only financial paine with the car sofar except from the fuel consumption...... It's a great and fun car to drive.

Changed to snow tyres today and discovered that the summer tyres are pretty dried out and will need replacement asap. Odd because the tread is still well over 6 or 7 mm.
So now the major question, to run flat or not to run flat

The car originally had run flats but they were changed later to normal tires. This Always gives me a creapy fealing because there's no spare tire in the boot and there's no space either for a spare.
So i prefer the RF tires but hear they are more sensitive for spurs in the road. Normal tires are cheaper.....

What are your thoughts?

Run flats are much improved these days over the earlier ones. Considering your lack of a spare, and the ineffectualness of a can of tyre goop when there's a coin sized hole in a sidewall or similar, I think you'd have to be mad to fit anything other than run flats, unless you can get a spare wheel and don't mind it cluttering up the boot.

My thoughts also. I never drive my E91 on the edge, so runflats are the perfect tyre for me. The car is designed on runflats, non rft's give more body roll. Those 18"will set you back some 1200 euro for 4...
