What car(s) should you never have sold?

Post by Jeroen »

Picked this one up up from one of the threads, people regretting selling cars. How about you?

I had some beautiful cars in the past that were great, but still I usually had good reasons to sell like upgrading to a better or faster example. Like my E30 323 or very first E21, a 316 in 323i looks

But if there's one car I really regret selling, it's my Talbot Samba!

Originally a silly Sympa, but I bought a Group B rallycar as well. Engine, driveline and suspension were fitted in the Sympa chassis. With abt 125 BHP @ 8000 rpm from a 680 kgs car that was enough performance to drive circles around 205 GTi's and beat 911's. And if you look at what prices the Group B Samba's are going at now... I should never have sold it. But there was always something with the car, the engine needed attention and a carb sync every 1000 kms, rust started coming back, too much for a young boy having his first real job... sad though! Still love that car's stealth looks although it probably not as fast is it is in my memory :P

Not many give aways, well wheels made wider and the additional air intake on the hood to feed the two double Weber carbs...

Bit of a similar story:

My fathers first ever car was a hand painted Pea Green 1934 Austin 7 box saloon which he owned in 1961. He sold it back in 1962.

Last year he decided to search out and buy a similar car, a Cream on Black 1934 Austin 7 box saloon. Whilst buying some parts from a specialist he mentioned his old cars registration.
A few days later he had a phone call saying they had found his old car and it may be up for sale.
Allmost exactly 50 years to the day he went to see it and then a few months later managed to buy it back.
He did a bit of work on it then ran it in the JOGLE (JohnOGroats to Lands End) car run for the Austin 7's 90th anniversary.

My first ever car - Austin Mini Minor 850 (4074 KR), BMW 1600-2 (WNP 771G) & Ford Escort MK1 (with reg number just 2 figures more than the FoMoCo numbers)

I spotted the 1600-2 in a photo on the website of a certain ''e21 specialist'' down in Devon. I asked about it and they told me how it was a local, 1 owner, super low mileage car belonging to them and that I must have got the number wrong. I didn't bother mentioning the old number plate I still own or that I knew the number because my kids used to call the car Winnipeg when they were about 5 or 6 years old. Yeah, I was mistaken.

Bearing in mind i have owned over 65 cars so far these are 3 i regret selling... :screwy
My first car a white mk2 escort 1300gl with only 28000 on the clock,, mint, never sold it ,was stolen within 6 mths of me owning it... never found...
a black classic saab 900 turbo 16v with abbot racing goodies fitted... very nice car..
and one of my mk2 golfs.... a 1991 4 door gti in royal blue, exterior was imaculate with the bbs wheels only slightly lowered 30 mm, a fully rebuilt 1.9 engine, gearbox. new brakes and clutch.. a very good car... still would be doing me proud today.. only sold it as i had just got my 323i back with its m30 3.5 :D and also owned an audi s2 coupe.. asked my wife which should i sell between the audi and golf, she said golf :wtf.. the audi should of gone instead.. had to sell it anyway once our daughter was born( 6mths later).. and hey presto a 4 door mk2 golf gti would of been perfect.... l only sold it for £500 to a mate.. :hammer

I should never have sold my E30 M3 Euromeister. I was 18 years old when i bought it, man i loved that car, but like Nas, the cost of running it was killing me while at uni, so i sold it to my brother, who has since sold it on. Trouble is, i live about 4 miles from where it lives now and often see it...gggrrr

Fully agree, what a car if ur 18 years old! Still I don't know what running costs were so high on that car, perhaps just the fact it needed some fuel every now and then may be enough trouble for an 18 yo already

I tend not to sell things
that is why I still have my Hartge after 16 years and my Camaros after 25!

Before settling down I had 8 BMWs before the Hartge during the 70/80s

And I do regret selling Dennis Nordern's 1981 E21 320/6 - I loved that car and since I was at the top of my game at the time we had many lovely memories together. It was in that metallic red.- is it Karrot Red?

I can't remember all the Number plate JWM something W. Because of my job at the time it had a get out of jail free number plate which was very useful!

Top of the list would be a Gold 1975 Opel manta A series, then most of the cars i broke up in the early 80's.
