Oldtimer Grand Prix Nurburgring: August 8-10, 2014

Post by Jeroen »

One of the best classic racing events worldwide and even more so for BMW fans is the OGP at the legendary German Ring (both the F1 track and the Nordschleife).

To get an impression you can have a look at our exclusive reports on previous editions: 2010 - 2011 - 2012 - 2013. Official website: http://www.avd.de/ogpracing/

What can we expect this year: of course the cars that have become regulars over the past years ranging from the oldest pre-war stuff including a couple of 328's, through the tourers and GT's from the 50's and 60's and all the way to DRM, DTM and historic F1. And always several carbrands will put in some extra efforts and bring out legendary cars and drivers for some celebration.

New this year (added to the known 70's and 80's historic F1 class) is a vintage F1 class with the impressive 50's stuff back in the day driven by names like Graham Hill, Phill Hill, Jim Clark and John Surtees. There will also be a longer evening race on Sat!

For BMW fanatics this is one of the best events worldwide as BMW always puts in a lot of efforts. Not parked cars but enough action including several Group 5 E21's, we spoke to Charles Veillard and he will be there with the Eddie Cheever Group 5 320i, and we expect 2-3 more! It is 99% sure Marc Hessel will be driving the impressive screaming McLaren F1 GTR longtail and BMW plans to celebrate 30 years of DTM and 30 years of M5. Promising enough, or?!

A few pics from this year's party to start with...

Cecotto doing some brilliant driving in the wet

Image

My favorite in the Historic F1 grid, 1981 Alfa Romeo 179B ex Bruno Giacomelli. Not with a Ford DFV V8 like all the others, but with its original Alfa Romeo V12, respect!

Image

Nice hommage to Michael Schumacher by Pierre Schroeder in the ex-Schumacher Benetton B194

Image

Veillard has no issues using child labor to get his E21 Group 5 racer ready

Image

Image

Marc Hessel in the McLaren F1 GTR (ex Steve Soper / Nelson Piquet / JJ Lehto)

Image

Last one for now, Franz Ostermaier in his Group 5 E21

Some additional photos, delivering them to you in small doses this time

Our personal transportation, with upgrades by BMW Classic haha!

Image

A little bit more historic F1, with this Brabham BT42 in a great livery

Image

Alfa V12 mentioned before, in this case with the ex Nigel Mansell Lotus 91/5 literally flying past at the end of the straight

Image

Zakspeed Ford Capri always looks spectacular and even more so on a slightly humid track

Image

Need to finish each post with BMW pics I guess, how about an edited pic of the 328 CoTuRa, only two built in 1949 by Rotterdam based Coos van der Tuyn Racing

Image

Image

And finally Charles Veillard in action in the E21 Group 5 racer

Image

At the BMW Classic stand we found this lovely E21 Alpina B6 2.8 and its owner. Car has some added grunt with B9 3.5 power plant but still looks like it should under the bonnet
