Hi,
I was looking for E21 doors on EBay and have discovered two new examples. However the seller states that the manufacturer's part numbers for these doors are 415 118 75 651 and 415 118 75 652 respectively. The sellers says that BMW's corresponding part numbers are 415 118 75 661 and 415 118 75 662. The seller is in Athens, Greece.
I cannot understand the use of different part numbers. Weren't these doors manufactured by BMW?
I would be grateful if someone could explain the different part numbers.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Part numbers for E21 doors
Well, my findings wigh Xhensila is that he is straightforward in doing business. But that is just what I think.
Regarding those doors, I looked the adds up and what you have there are blank doors. So they can be used for type 1 and 2. An you need to use parts from the old doors. The triangle where the mirror goes on type 2 doors and the windowrail is different to the triangle on type 1 doors.
These doors have neither. So you need to drill out the rivets on the old doors and put the windowrail with triangle in the new doors. And of course, all other screw on bits and the rubber weatherstrip that is glued over the door.
As for the numbers: these are spare doors regardless the type of e21 you have. The other numbers are type 2 doors, you also have type 1 doors with their own numbers. Those have te correct windowrail and triangle already in them.

Thank you for the prompt reply. It is reassuring that you say that the seller is straightforward in doing business. It is also reassuring that these doors can be converted to Type 2 doors for the Elephant.
I am at a crossroads: Do I buy these doors with a view to keeping the Elephant until I am too old and have to let her go, or do I make do with one final repair on her existing doors (the door bottoms keep bubbling with rust every couple of years) and let her go within the next few years? I shall have to ask my fiancee for her views. Ideally, I want to grow old with her and the Elephant, even if I am a little poorer as a result of having to keep the Elephant in good nick.

Re: Part numbers for E21 doors
How good a chance do you have of finding an other couple of new doors over the next few years?
Re: Part numbers for E21 doors
How right you are. My fiancee and I have decided that the Elephant is a keeper. She agrees we should get these doors.
Re: Part numbers for E21 doors
A somewhat belated update. The party offering the new doors for sale would not send them to Malaysia. So, the existing doors had to be repaired. With the left (passenger) door this meant cutting out and replacing the bottom section with fresh metal. The whole left side of the car was painted as there was a minor blemish on a rear panel that required attention. On the right (driver's) door the rust was comparatively minor. This rust was removed and the bottom of the door was painted.
