e30 wheel question

Hi all

wow... my first e30 post... feels wierd to be on the other side of the forum

Anyway... my e21 alloys will fit the e30 (they weren't really the right offset for the e21) but they don't sit on the stub axle. The centre hole is too big. I have run them on the e21 like this for 8 years without problems, and was just wondering whether this is a problem for the e30?

I notice that the stock steelies on the e30 do sit on the stub axles, where as the stock e21 rims didn't (which is why I never worried about it before!)

the wheels center on the stub axle rather than with the wheel studs so I guess you've been lucky not to experience all sort of unbalance problems. Perhaps the wong make, destined for VW or something, of perhaps centering rings are missing (belong to the alloys).

Myself I would move to 15" alloys that fit 100%...

Thanks Jeroen... I took your advice managed to pick up some of the factory 14 inch BBS cross spokes from a 325is for $250AUD ($155 EURO) with new goodyear tyres and all the centre caps on Australian ebay! The car doesn't drive that much different, but looks much nicer

I'll have to post some pics with the new wheels. I would have loved a set of 15 inch BBS cross spokes, but they are pretty hard to get down here (and certainly not cheap like the 14s were).

The guy I bought them from had managed to find an original set of 5 spoke AC Schnitzer wheels for his 325is. These are extremely rare down here.

I was actually surprised by how tightly the alloys centre on the stub axles, certainly they have no vibration issues etc.
